ArtHunt
In a big city like Toronto, in the middle of hustle and busstle there is great opportunity for artists to showcase their work and also for people to experience art in many spots. Toronto being a multicultural city, is the perfect canvas for Art apps like the one we are proposing.
Inspired by the great colorful Dundas Square, we proposed Art Hunt as a creative solution to add activities for art fans around the square.
It offers:
-
Personalized experience - the ability to experience art differently for each user
-
Accessible art - bringing art to everyone who owns a phone, not having to pay gallery art tickets or to visit certain museums, simply experience art through their phone screen while visiting Dundas Square
-
Social sharing - allowing a share option for this amazing experience to the online community, creating bridging options for collaborations with famous influencers, artists and businesses.

Why Art?
Let's take a look at the data
Current Art events on Yonge & Dundas
A study by the US Trust found that millennials and gen Z are twice more likely than boomers to enjoy visual art, by using digital tools to produce and consume art. Millennials are becoming more interested in the art market and in the data shown in the graph below, millenials and Gen Z are the nr. 1 visitors of Dundas Square so we have a perfect match!
But, is Art the main thing that comes to mind when we think of Dundas Square?
The problem
Art enthusiasts and tourists face limited options to explore public art locations and in most of the cases lack attention towards the artist or the artwork itself.
The solution
We developed an ar-powered app that enhances the art experience around Dundas Square, by providing locations, information for art pieces and also AR visuals so that the users can get an immersive experience that they can also share on social media to increase engagement and attention towards the artists of Toronto.

Why AR?
According to the data presented by APAC, an increase on the AR investments and technology is expected within 2026, which brings us in the middle of an AR pandemic - opening up opportunities for our app to become a trend within this period.

Changes and considerations proposed from our users
Information provided for events should be the time, location, ranked by closest to the user etc.
"Start an itinerary" within the about section of an art piece or museum
The map button could have an indication saying that it is linked to the itinerary
The quest page can show more information about what is coming next and make it more appealing for the user to want to visit more.
Visible reviews for an experience/ a museum/ art work
The itinirary page should have more clear indications for what is selected and what is not
High Fidelity Prototype
One way of modifying their sort order ais the bottom section where they can add or remove art sports as well as re-sort them
Art events and exhibitions showcased in the home page as well as experiences around the square
The user can view information about event's time, location and prize.
They can also add an event or experience to favorites and navigate through their most liked art pieces or experiences.
In the itinerary section, the user can filter the art spots directly on the map as per their request
When selecting an art spot, the app will create the best itinerary for the user and they can modify it according to their needs
By clicking on an art location, the user can view detailed information about the art piece and the artist as well as reviews and also photos and AR experiences taken by other users in that spot.
When visiting the art location the user can access the AR feature, by pointing the camera towards the art piece and taking interactive AR photos or videos with it.
By sharing their experience (photo or video) they can access the quest, showing them what to view next and once completing a set of visits they can be rewarded with gift cards, coupons or discounts on similar events
Anything for Art!
Art Hunt was one of my favorite projects during my studies at "Humber College" in Toronto, created in a 7 week design sprint led by Julia LeClair. I got to work with an amazing team and learned a lot during the process. We got to develop such an inteesting idea and make it come to life through a lot of research, sleepless nights and also fun experimenting with AR tools. As Art lovers, we commited to bring more attention to the artists of Toronto and enjoyed the process along the way!
